***About Common Loon

***: The common loon, known scientifically as Gavia immer, is a large water bird predominantly found in North America and parts of Eurasia. Recognized by its striking black and white plumage and red eyes, the loon is famous for its eerie, melodious calls which vary from wails to tremolos. Adapted to lake environments, their diet mainly consists of fish, which they catch with their sharp bills. Loons are excellent divers, often disappearing beneath water for minutes on end to emerge far from their initial dive spot. They nest near the water's edge, laying typically two eggs which both parents protect and incubate.
